It is said that until the 20th century, wooden ships were most often used for fishing, and were built and repaired in local shipyards. So, in addition to fishing, shipbuilding also became a prominent industry in Izola.

Simon’s Bay Archaeological Park

The Simon’s Bay Archaeological Park is a cultural monument of national importance. In it you can see the restored walls of the residential district of the city discovered during excavations during the 20th century. In the northern area, a part of the reconstructed floor mosaic from the residential district is laid out, and in the south, you’ll find a corridor connecting the villa and port. At the back of the villa, the remains of the water supply system that supplied the villa complex with water were also discovered.
