Architectural attractions

The local church of St. Bernardin from the Middle Ages is one of the oldest churches in the area. The iconic building is also part of the St. Bernardin Resort, home to Grand Hotel Bernardin, which has hosted many famous individuals and high-profile events. Among the city’s other special charms are the many villas built in different architectural styles, such as art nouveau, classicism, and modernism.

Forma Viva

Portorož can also boast of a collection of outdoor stone sculptures, the creation of which began in 1961. Sculptors from over 30 different countries have left more than 130 stone statues standing around the city, surrounded by a grove of indigenous Piran olive tree varieties, and a beautiful view extending from the park to the bay and the surrounding area.

The famous Porečanka railway

The Porečanka (or Parenzana in Italian) was a famous narrow-gauge railway line that operated between Poreč and Trieste from 1902 to 1935, and was one of the longest narrow-gauge railways in Europe. Today it has been transformed into a modern recreational trail, named the Path of Health and Friendship.
