The three legends of the mineral springs

More than 150 years ago, when the mineral water from Radenci still rose from the deep without human assistance, it made loud hissing, rumbling, and bubbling noises at the source. The strange sounds emanating from the depths of the earth excited the imaginations of the people of Radenci into crafting three local legends.

  •        The noise coming from the springs is caused by hard-working dwarfs digging tunnels to make way for the healing water.
  •        The hissing and rumbling is caused by witches who are cooking dumplings in a large pot under the spring.
  •        The loud rumbling is the result of thunder and hail collecting in the spring.

Dr. Karl Henn, "father" of the health resort industry in Radenci

Dr. Karl Henn – doctor, balneologist, and expert on healing waters – is the one foremost figures responsible for the fame and recognition of the CO2-rich Radenci mineral water. In his youth, he tasted the mineral water on his way through Radenci, and in 1865 he would return, determined to create a well at the spring and once again capture the "mineral champagne" he tasted during his student years. In the first year since starting the well, he bottled and sold 37,000 bottles. He soon attained great business success, followed by many medals won at food and culinary exhibitions in Slovenia and in foreign European capitals. Even the pope in the Vatican and the emperor in the Vienese court were drinking the famous Radenci mineral water.
